For those not familiar with the play, it's a comedy of (bad) manners about two newly-married couples honeymooning in adjacent rooms at the same hotel, and sharing a common balcony. The trouble is that the husband of one couple was formerly married to the wife of the other couple. Complications ensue.
The play premiered in 1930 and featured a remarkable cast including Coward himself, Gertrude Lawrence, and Laurence Olivier. Some literary critics consider it to be Coward's finest work (although the playwright purportedly favored "Blithe Spirit").
The cast consists of two couples (in their 20s and 30s as indicated in the script), and a small comic role for a French maid. For our production, the ages of the couples will be determined by appropriate "pairings" and availability, and probably not tied to Coward's specifications.
