From Home in Bunny Slippers: Creations from a Community in the Weirdest Year Ever is a gallery show that accompanies the book of the same name. The book is a collection of creative work compiled by the Chocolate Church Arts Center that reflects the ways in which communities across Maine (and friends from away) responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges of 2020, and found catharsis through the act of creation.
The book, and accompanying gallery show, contains submissions from professional artists and musicians (Lady Lamb, Schooner Fare, Renuka O’Connell, Denis Boudreau), as well as amateur creators, community groups, house painters, infants, and more. The submissions include paintings, poetry, essays, and puppet shows, many of which will be displayed, and available for purchase, as part of the gallery show. Multimedia pieces, including original songs, videos, and comedy skits, will be viewable via the scanning of QR Codes with mobile devices.
From Home in Bunny Slippers is a testament to the resilience and creativity of a community coming to terms with a truly bizarre time, and speaks to the ways in which arts of all sorts provide an outlet during difficult times. The charming works in the project will make you laugh, cry, reflect, and give thanks.
