A message from the Gallery Committee:

Some very important changes are coming to the Chocolate Church.  The board of directors voted just before Thanksgiving to accept an offer to rent our present gallery.  We plan to take several months to restore the old gallery space in the Church annex, where many of you will remember the original gallery was housed.  This space is smaller than the present gallery, but we have every expectation that when it is completed, it will be as professional as the one we are vacating.

In this difficult economic environment, it was deemed prudent to ensure a regular income from the present gallery site as well as eliminate some of our utilities expenses, which are surprisingly high at the present gallery.  This move will help us maintain a balanced budget.

In many ways, this move will be advantageous for everyone involved, including the artists showing in our gallery.  We hope to be able to bring together the visual and performing arts into a more coherent campus, allowing performance audiences to visit the gallery before performances and during intermission, and in general increasing gallery exposure.

This sudden change of plans has forced us to cancel the annual juried photography show at the Chocolate Church in January 2009 and to postpone two subsequent shows

The gallery committee sincerely regrets that we must cancel the upcoming photography show and apologizes for any inconvenience to those who intended to enter and to those who hoped to see the show.  We are aware that there are very few venues for juried shows in Maine, and we plan to resume the annual photography show at the Chocolate Church next winter.
